The Sims 4 has addressed a significant bug that numerous players are reporting following the release of the newest update.
The latest base game update, which was launched for all players yesterday (July 26), introduced a number of new and exciting features including sexual orientation options, curved walls, body hair, wants and fears, and a new phone interface. But it also appears to have introduced an awkward glitch.
Simmers are currently experiencing their Sims instantly and automatically ageing when playing with the Sim Lifespan setting on ‘Short’ or ‘Long’ (in Game Options under Gameplay).
“I opened up a household and played for about 10 minutes,” shared one player. “When I got back to my manage household, everyone is aged up. Kids are teens, young adults are almost elders. None of their birthdays [were] coming up.”
At the time, SimGuruNick commented that the issue was being investigated, but now we have a full message acknowledging the glitch, with a fix hopefully on the way.
“Hey Simmers!” the official Sims Twitter account posted, “We are currently investigating instances involving Sims auto-aging up in saves using the Short or Long lifespan. We recommend temporarily playing in or creating new saves with the default/’Normal’ lifespan, as we work towards a solution.”
Another short-term way to get around the bug is to simply turn auto-ageing off, by making sure the Auto Age (Played Sims) setting is set to ‘No’ and the Auto Age (Unplayed Sims) option is unchecked.
The release of the new update coincides with the launch of the High School Years expansion, out tomorrow. This teen-focused pack offers plenty of new content for the younger Sims to do, including attending school at Copperdale High, exploring a large theme park, and setting fashion trends.
The team collaborated with the fashion marketplace app Depop for the fashion aspects of this expansion.
“Being able to work directly with Gen Z Depop creators lends a lot of authenticity of the pack,” senior game designer Jessica Croft recently told Digital Spy,
The Sims 4: High School Years will launch on PC, Mac, PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S on Thursday, July 28.
